This new six-story fashion design headquarters building, in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood, incorporates two preserved historic landmarked façades into its design. The project features a dramatic faceted enclosure at the roof, which is composed of large insulated glass units with pre-bonded aluminum cassettes and is supported by a solid steel bar site-welded frame. Where opaque glass is required for shading at the roof locations, a white film is incorporated into the airspace of the IGU’s. The ground floor façade is composed of an insulated glass unit storefront system, set behind cast iron columns. Front began work on this project during schematic design and consulted on the new façade systems, as well as the interior stair design, through design development and bid negotiation.
