Front assisted the architects and the design team to develop the configuration of this 33-story tower in University City, Philadelphia, built to house the area’s large population of students, faculty, and young professionals. The mixed-use residential tower stands at 395 feet tall with an area of 460,000 ft2, and boasts 344 apartment units as well as 15,000 ft2 of amenities space, including study lounges, bike storage, concierge service, a media room, a swimming pool, and a fitness center. The tower also has 4,000 ft2 of office-lease space and 6,700 ft2 of retail space. With the integration of a 1-acre green roof, the project’s sustainable design targets LEED Gold accreditation.
The building enclosure comprises long span low iron glass, store front, curtain wall, ceramic printed spandrel units, fixed and operable glazing, highly insulating cantilevered glazed entrances, frameless glass balustrades, and all glass ventilation panels, and glazed accordion walls. Front’s scope of work involved system design and engineering, environmental analyses, CAD detailed drawings, and construction specifications, of all exterior wall systems. We also led the bidding and evaluation process and assisted the specialist contractors in setting up a new production facility in Central America to produce unitized façade systems, prior to installation.
