This project involved the redesign of the porte cochre to provide an ample, column-free, protected area for arrivals at the Royal Plaza Hotel in Singapore. Designed in conjunction with the adjacent DFS Scott’s Walk façade, the curving canopy geometry creates a smooth, seamless underside and boasts a large elevated terrace for the hotel café and restaurant. A curving glass balustrade follows the perimeter of the terrace allowing views from tables directly down to the activity below. The porte cochere also ties into the uninterrupted overhead sidewalk protection that runs along Scott’s Road. The lower portions of the hotel façade were re-clad in stone panels.
Front was the concept designer and engineer for the canopy as well as the glass balustrades, storefront and entry glazing systems.
