The Heckscher Foundation’s all-encompassing mission is to promote children’s welfare throughout the United States. This completely renovated New York City townhouse serves as the administrative headquarters for the foundation, supporting their public outreach and grant-giving activities. The historic 1902 building, designed by Samuel Trowbridge, has been transformed and now displays minimalist light-filled spaces. The design features a continuous shaft of light at one end of the building, which is achieved by cutting away narrow openings in the floor at each level. Front collaborated with the design team, during the construction document phase, and detailed the large low-iron glass panels enclosing the vertical shaft.
