The Landmark Mandarin Oriental in Hong Kong is one of many hotels managed by the worldwide Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, which prides itself on the unique and contemporary architecture at each of its locations. To provide this location with an individual iconic identity, an innovative fan-inspired glass curtain wall was chosen, inspired by the Mandarin Oriental fan-shaped logo. This back-lit, accordion-folded, curtain wall wraps the existing building’s retail podium at levels 2 through 4, creating a glowing nighttime display from the street and dressing up the existing 1970’s precast façade. The project included the complete renovation and partial re-cladding of an existing 104,000 ft2 (9,662 m2) hotel. Front collaborated with the design team on this innovative curtain wall design, for the primary building facade, from schematic design through design development and tendering.
