Theory Ginza / 2013

This retail façade, which is situated on a prominent corner of the shopping district of Ginza, Japan, is clad in a panelized aluminum skin, featuring a foamed aluminum exterior texture in a running bond brick pattern. What upon first glance appears to be brickwork, is actually a unique pewter-like specular surface. The resulting façade has clean lines and an alluring reflectivity.

Front’s scope included developing system details and the pre-fabrication approach, which allowed the façade to be installed in a large-panel rainscreen configuration. Additionally, Front was responsible for evaluating the stability, durability and longevity of the foamed-on aluminum material used.
