This hotel and cultural center is intended as a support building to the iconic CCTV headquarters across the street. The lower portion of the building includes various public facilities, such as a large theater, a ballroom and exhibition spaces. The tower accommodates a hotel, managed by Mandarin Oriental, with guest rooms organized at two sides, allowing for a vast atrium in the center. The façade design for this, approximately 1 million ft2 (95,000 m2), 525 ft (160 m) tall facility, is comprised of a semi-unitized glass curtain wall, which steps in and out at the module of each guest room, and a strip-like custom-ribbed titanium-zinc alloy panel roof, which expressively steps and folds down to meet the ground on two sides, shrouding the building. Front consulted on all façade systems throughout the building from schematic design through construction administration.
