The central design feature of this new 630,000 ft2 (58,500 m2) medical facility is an expansive light-infused atrium, intended to promote healing and stress reduction by providing ample natural light. A unitary curtain wall encloses the crescent-shaped building and utilizes double insulating glass for both its low-e coated vision panels and opaque spandrel glass. Extensive horizontal, cantilevered sunshades filter sunlight at the perimeter, and light-shelf baffles inside the curtain wall illuminate the atrium. Complimentary masonry and steel-supported laminated glass canopies at the entrances complete the envelope composition. Front provided design and technical consultation to the architects from schematic design through to contract award.
